Your 5-Week Winter Watercolour Journey

Week 1 — Tuesday 10 November

Winter Robin
Water Control & Wet-on-Dry

Start with the foundations of watercolour, learning how to control the amount of water and pigment on your brush.

You’ll build your robin gradually using light washes, stronger colour and simple layered details.

Week 2 — Tuesday 17 November

Northern Lights
Wet-on-Wet

Explore one of watercolour’s most beautiful techniques by allowing blues, greens and purples to blend and flow together naturally.

You’ll create a dramatic winter sky while learning how to work with, rather than against, the movement of the paint.

Week 3 — Tuesday 24 November

Penguin Pair
Colour Mixing & Layering

Learn how to mix soft greys and blue-greys and build colour gradually in transparent layers.

This project introduces simple glazing and shows how subtle changes in tone can create depth without overworking the painting.

Week 4 — Tuesday 1 December

Winter Hare
Washes & Soft Edges

Create a soft winter scene while learning how to blend washes and control the difference between crisp and softened edges.

You’ll use gentle colour transitions and cool shadows to create atmosphere and depth.

Week 5 — Tuesday 8 December

Red Truck in the Snow
Layering, Contrast & Simple Shadows

For the final painting, bring together the techniques developed over the previous four weeks.

You’ll build rich red colour in layers, use contrast effectively and add simple shadows to give the truck and snowy scene more depth.

What Will You Learn?

Over the five weeks, you’ll explore beginner watercolour techniques including water control, wet-on-dry, wet-on-wet, colour mixing, washes, blending, layering, glazing, soft and hard edges, contrast and simple shadows.

Each finished painting is created on an A4 canvas panel, giving you five complete winter artworks to take home by the end of the Art Club.

This is a structured, skills-based Art Club, but the atmosphere is relaxed and supportive. You’ll be guided through every project step by step, with plenty of help along the way.
